Features Desk: Hung Yen Ecopark – An Experience in Planning and Design in Vietnam

Image
Features Desk Bee Lan Wei Kiang Hung Yen Ecopark is a 500 hectare township in Van Giang, Hung Yen Province, located 10 km southeast of the city centre of Hanoi, within half an hour drive. The township is sited on a low-lying area near the confluence of Bac Hung Hai Canal and the Red River. We embarked on this project in 2006, with a vision to create the first sustainable integrated waterfront township in Hanoi with several waterfront community, a commercial hub and institution hub featuring a lake forming a ring within the township. The key challenge of the project is to create a waterfront community, where there would be minimum impact on the existing water ecosystem within the site, and resilient to climate change. The team has studied and establish the development concept, drawing influences from Ciputra Hanoi International City and Phu My Hung Township, along with waterfront residential community in Florida and Gold Coast, and the newly minted Sentosa Cove in Singapore. Recording of tea party with Wang Xing

Comment from Yihan Zhu: On 28th Sep, Wang Xing, our 2000-2001 alumni, and a cultural tourism development expert, has shared his experience in cultural tourism with us. He started from the history of urban planning in China, analysed the urban-rural dichotomy in China, and then moved on to the work on rural revitalisation today, and the link between rural revitalisation and urban design, providing us with an in-depth analysis. My perception is that, in order for planning to be "practical", the two core issues of "who uses it" and "how to use it well" must be clarified. The users of the planning process are the participants in its implementation. The implementation of village planning is a systematic project involving all aspects of the protection and use of rural land space, but the main participants can still be categorised as administrators (government departments, mainly related to natural resources, agriculture and rural areas, and cultural conservati

Technology Desk - Urban Milieu Index System

Content Provided UVEST The complexity of urban milieu "Cities are the quintessential example of complex systems. Their patterning in spatial terms across many scales is highly ordered but the evolution of such patterns does not depend on some centralised authority, some hidden hand, except insofar as such a hidden hand emerges from the uncoordinated actions of individuals." --- British Urban Planner Michael Batty Urban evaluations are performed by urban planners or professionals. This conventionally appears as SWOT analysis (or SWOT matrix), which is a strategic planning technique used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to project planning. In the urban study, SWOT is usually used as a contextual analysis tool in planning, particularly in the fields of land-resource planning, urban strategy planning, tourism planning, etc. The conventional SWOT analysis only analyzes the research object in general terms, and the result is descriptive, which

Project submitted by  l'AUC and  CENDES+TENarchitects & Planners l'AUC is a professional architecture and urbanism company based in Paris. Since its creation in 1996. l'AUC develops a counter-current posture with regards to architectural and urban issues in the context of French, European and international urban design. By questioning the commonly accepted hierachy between project scales and placing them all at an equivalent level of importance, l'AUC's analysis and design methods establish permanent back and forth movements and transversality from the territorial and metropolitan scale up to the detail. Tea Party with Author Emmanuel Daniel - The Personalization of Society (Summary and Video)

Image
Thanks, Emmanuel Daniel (ED) for taking his time amidst his tight schedule to meet online and share with us his views and thoughts. The revolution of finance forms the basis and foundation of digital services that are now being invented and created. All users who want to participate in the Metaverse have to own some cryptocurrencies and digital wallets for transactions, otherwise one can only be an audience and bystander.  When asked about the volatility of digital currencies and their link to network societies, he reiterated that their value fluctuation is irrelevant to their use and purpose. They remain to serve those purposes regardless of their value in dollars. When asked by Swee Kim how the senior generation could partake and keep abreast of this personalization of the finance process and keep up-to-date. ED answer was cryptic, think of an intermediary, if there is one, he can be done away with. Keep removing them we will be fine.  Do we need some guidelines, policies, or organ
